By Michael Russell If you're of legal age in most states when you're 18, then for your eighteenth anniversary it should be legal to get any anniversary gift you want. Unfortunately, if you want to stick to the rules, you can't do this. So you're stuck with the only choice for number 18, since there are no traditional gifts for this day. Enter the modern gift of porcelain. Fortunately, there are many things made out of porcelain. These are not cheap gifts, mind you, but your choices are in a great abundance. Just get ready to go to the store with an open mind and an open wallet or a credit card with some decent credit left on it. Most things porcelain are made for the dining room or living room. For example, you can get a nice pair of porcelain fruit bowls. If you're tired of the traditional white porcelain, you can actually get these in nice colors like red. Most will be hand crafted and thus come with a big price tag. Centerpieces are a big thing for the dining room table during a family meal on the holidays. You can get small tureen with plate that is adorned with 24 carat gold. You can get one of these decorated with flowers all around if you like. You can put just about any kind of food in the tureen if you like. While smoking is not as in as it once was, if your spouse is a smoker, you can replace all the ashtrays in the house with porcelain ashtrays. If you get a few that are nice enough, your spouse may just give up smoking because of the fear of ruining the ashtrays. Of course, if you want to get something that is totally impractical and just for show, you can splurge for some porcelain statues. These are very common in novelty shops and gift shops. You don't have to spend a lot of money on these, though some go for several hundred dollars or more. These statues come in just about every shape and size, in human and in animal form. If you want to work your way into the bathroom, you can get your spouse a nice porcelain toilet set. These usually come in multi piece sets covering a wide range of items including perfume bottles, combs, brushes and mirrors. These pieces are very delicate, so handle with care. Another thing you can get is porcelain picture frames. These come in all shapes and sizes for those odd sized photos. The frames themselves range from very plain to very well adorned and obviously the price tags for each go along with them. Finally, you can pick yourself up, or your spouse, a porcelain basket. You can put just about anything in these baskets and they also come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. If you put your mind to it, you'll discover that there are quite a few things made of porcelain and you should have no trouble finding just the right anniversary gift for your eighteenth anniversary.
